Garth colourist and Thunderbirds are Go artist Martin Baines has created a smashing anniversary cover art for ComicScene Magazine 13, on sale in April, which will celebrate 70 years of Eagle comic and space hero Dan Dare.

The only dedicated monthly magazine to comics and comic culture in the UK and Ireland and available worldwide from GetMyComics, ComicScene Magazine Issue 13, on sale from 9th April 2020, covers Dan Dare in Eagle, 2000AD, Revolver, the Virgin Comics take on the character by Garth Ennis and Gary Erskine, Titan Comics recent Dan Dare mini series written by Peter Milligan with art by Alberto Fouche, and the Dan Dare Audio Adventures, from B7 Media, who are currently seeking crowdfunding for a third volume of stories.

Each month, ComicScene features the best in classic, new and indie/small press comics as well as features on comic inspired film and TV, comic events and comic strips in its pull-out Corker! supplement.

John Freeman

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.

Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.

He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
