Sneak Peek: Sentinel Issue 3, a comedy romp in outer space!

The team behind the independently-published SF and fantasy comic Sentinel have released a preview of the third issue – and it looks terrific!

Sentinel launched last October, when writer Alan Holloway and artist Ed Doyle decided the world needed a new Starblazer-styled comic, inspired by the SF and fantasy title, a companion in format to the still-published Commando, published by DC Thomson for many years.

They released the first issue of their 64-page, black and white, digest size comic, the space romp “Special Delivery“, earlier this year, which was incredibly well received and reviewed. (You can read Peter Duncan’s review for downthetubes here).

The second issue, a fantasy tale, “Scales of Justice”, was successfully funded last month through Kickstarter – and now preparation work has begun on their third crowdfunding appeal, launching in the next few weeks, for “A Fare To Remember“.

A mix between 2000AD’s “Ace Trucking Co.” and the classic sitcom Taxi, “A Fare to Remember” tells of two rival taxi firms working out of the Garp system. It’s funny, daft and expertly drawn by Paul Spence in his full length strip debut.

Paul is heavily infuenced by the late, great Massimo Bellardinelli (“Ace Trucking”, “Slaine”, “Inferno”, “Meltdown Man” and more) – and there are several homages buried within to give fans a chuckle.

Sentinel #3 Variant Cover by Hunt Emerson

The guest alternative cover artist is none other than comic legend Hunt Emerson, and he’s even included a cameo from his character Firkin (the Fiesta office cat back in the day) in the back seat.

The Kickstarter will include some original art by Paul as perks (all his art is physical but he’s keeping the pages!); and, for the first time, there will be a limited chance to own a signed script for the issue from Alan Holloway, the regular Sentinel writer.

“After the drama of Issue 2, we’re delighted to bring such a hilarious, daft strip,” says Alan, “before we wade back into misery with Issue Four, the Misty comic-inspired ‘Misty Moore’.”
