Way Out West: Former 2000AD artist Trevor Goring’s latest exhibition – in New Mexico!

British comic artist, illustrator and storyboard artist Trevor Goring has a joint exhibition with his wife, Sandy McDaniel, currently running at the Faust Gallery in their home town of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and fellow artist Dave Newman. Perhaps a little too far for many downthetubes readers to travel to see the work of theses fantastic creators, but everyone is welcome, if you are in the area!

On show are 18 pieces of new work Trevor has produced in the last year, and Sandy is exhibiting seven large oil paintings.

This talented pair tell us they’re working on a new website, that will feature all this work, some already sold, some still available for sale from the Faust Gallery web site, here for Trevor, and here for Sandy.

His series, “The Four Seasons” featured in the exhibition, is influenced by Trevor’s designs for the story, “Sundown” featured in Outlaw Territory, a graphic novel anthology published by Image Comics. Each framed piece of four drawings tells a seasonal story using bold imagery of landscapes, wildlife, and the human drama of love, loss, and conflict.

Trevor Goring – who will be a familiar face to some as a US convention guest – has had the pleasure of working with a lot of great Directors, Production Designers, Concept and Storyboard artists down the years and continues to work on graphic novels and video games.

A book highlighting his amazing work, Storyboards: The Unseen Art of Hollywood, was published in 2021 by Hermes Press – unfortunately, it appears, not stocked by any major bookshop or comic shop in the UK.

After receiving a BA in Graphic Design at St. Martin’s School of Art in London, Trevor illustrated comics for 2000AD (working on “M.A.C.H. One” and “Dan Dare” with Garry Leach, among other strips), House of Hammer and more, and established the Soho-based advertising art company Helicopter Studios, working alongside comic creators such as the late Colin Andrew and Gerry DolanMartin Griffiths and Sydney Jordan.

He moved to Los Angeles in the early 1990s and entered his new career, storyboarding films such as The Lion, The Witch and the WardrobeX-Men 2, WatchmenTwilight and Real Steel, video games, TV shows and advertisements detailed on his official web site, most recently working on films such as The Dark Tower and Shanghai Fortress. He also continued working in comics.

Sandy McDaniel grew up surrounded by the artistic influences of rural Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania and started painting at an early age. Her love of horses and a passion for the West have been major creative inspirations for her paintings.

After graduating from Pennsylvania State University Sandy moved, with her horse, to Glendale, California to pursue a career in the visual arts, working for clients including the design firm Saul Bass & Yager, Walt Disney Imagineering, and the Getty Museum.

Her work has appeared in galleries in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Bozeman, Montana, Las Vegas, Nevada, and in California in Paso Robles, Ojai, and the Autry’s Southwest Museum. For the last two decades, she has spent summers in Montana riding and finding inspiration for her painting.

Dave Newman is a self-taught artist originally from Anaheim, California.  He and his wife Donna moved to Prescott, Arizona in 1997 and recently relocated to Placitas, New Mexico. Dave creates mixed media collage constructions using his original photographs, found objects and vintage magazine articles and advertisements. In making these ‘time capsules” Dave focuses on historic locations, recycles objects and brings a sense of nostalgia to his work.

Faust Gallery is one of the leading art galleries in the country, located in Scottsdale, Arizona and Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Gallery has been featuring the most sought-after artist adored by collectors worldwide, its main focus Classic to Contemporary American Indian art and Jewellery.
