There’s some smashing British comic art up for sale in the upcoming International Original Art & Anime Signature Auction #7257 from Heritage Auctions, taking place this weekend (1st – 3rd October 2021), including a number of covers by Mick Austin, including his preliminary cover art for the very first issue of Sonic the Comic and some of his Doctor Who art, too – and a smashing “Dark Judges” con poster by Carlos Ezquerra.
In all there are some 470 artworks on offer from artists around the globe, including Charlie Adlard, Mick Austin, Luis Bermejo, Brian Bolland and Garry Leach, some fantastic “Wrath of the Gods” pages from the 1960s adventure comic, Boys’ World by John M. Burns, John Buscema, the late, great Darwyn Cooke, Carl Critchlow, Carlos Ezquerra, Duncan Fegredo, Dave Gibbons, Charles Gillespie, Jose “Pepe” Gonzalez, Hergé, Hideki Kakinuma, Jack Kirby, Régis Loisel, Moebius, Marshall Rogers, Don Rosa, Steve Sampson, Ron Smith, Kôji Tani, Osamu Tezuka, Albert Uderzo, Charles Vess, Wally Wood and many, many more.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
