US comics publisher Vault Comics has appointed Reemsborko Ltd as the global agent for Heathen, the critically acclaimed and best-selling comic and graphic novel series.
Currently in pre-production as a major film release from Constantin Film AG and visionary director Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight), Heathen, created by Natasha Alterici, tells the story of a female Viking warrior, Aydis – an outcast, and a self-proclaimed heathen.
Born into a time of warfare, suffering, and subjugation of women, Aydis, friend to the talking horse Saga, rescuer of the immortal Valkyrie Brynhild, and a battler of gods and fantastic monsters, is scorned by her village for kissing another woman and then, after witnessing widespread injustice toward women, declares war on Odin himself.
Reemsborko is a small agency focusing on narrative content across all visual media for fans of all ages, currently representing Bill and Ted (all three films), Cannon Busters, Dragon Ball, Junji Itô Collection and Hatsune Miku.
“I’ve read comics all my life and am a bit fussy about what to follow, but I love Heathen,” enthuses Max Arguile of Reemsborko. “This is a great narrative with interesting characters, plenty of action and of course, gorgeous artwork.
“Viking mythology is still popular for a reason – like all great stories, they change and are retold for every generation and in Aydis, Natasha Alterici has created an inspirational warrior for our times, the kind of character that has been all too rare in popular culture. Don’t let the politicians and pundits make you think that feminism is a dirty word, because it isn’t. We need Aydis in our lives.”
“Natasha Alterici has done the (all but) impossible,” adds Adrian Wassel of Vault. “She’s created a hero who brings different audiences together. Aydis never gives up. She fights for everyone. It’s her secret weapon – a simple one, but so effectively told, weaving grand myths with fragile emotions. Aydis battles the gods themselves to protect love, and when she dons her antlered helmet, you feel her triumph and bravery.
“No matter where Heathen ventures, the page, the screen, Aydis finds new fans. We’re thrilled to have Reemsborko carry Heathen to new heights.”
The Heathen feature film was first announced in 2018, scripted by Kerry Williamson, whose credits include Alex Cross, Netflix’s What Happened to Monday and who’s adapted the fantasy series Sandman Slim for director Chad Stahelski and Studio 8. Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight, Red Riding Hood, Thirteen) was announced as director last year.
The film will be produced by Constantin’s Robert Kulzer with Adrian Askarieh who’s Prime Universe Films is in a two-year first look with Constantin and whose credits include Hitman: Agent 47. F.J. DeSanto will produce, who was a producer on the Frank Miller directed The Spirit and co-wrote and Executive Produced the Transformers anime for Machinima and Hasbro.
Executive Producers on the film are Damian Wassel, Vault’s CEO & Publisher is Executive Producer, Tim Daniel, Vault’s VP of Branding, who will co-produce, and Constantin’s Martin Moszkowicz.
