We’re sorry to report that US comics artist Rich Buckler – perhaps best known for his work on Fantastic FourBlack PantherThor and as the creator of Deathlok is ill. Worse yet, because of the cost of healthcare in the US, he needs help with his medical bills.

However, being a proud man he isn’t asking for charity – instead, working with Aardwolf Publishing – who announced they would be publishing a portfolio of his work some time back – they’ve come up with two ways to raise money.

This first is a sale on Rich’s new book, along with a few other projects that will help Rich. The second is a charity auction (details below), asking artists to draw his iconic creation Deathlok. The finished art will then be auctioned.

In November, 2014, Aardwolf Publishing first announced their intention to print a Rich Buckler art portfolio. They took deposits and advanced orders for that book that we are still holding and hoped to complete the book by now but circumstances beyond our control delayed it. Now, in light of Rich’s condition, they are now fast-tracking the project.

The Rich Buckler Art Portfolio features not only eighty of Rich’s superb drawings and paintings, but also forewords from fellow artist Jim Steranko and writer Roy Thomas.

“We initially planned to offer only 26 Lettered copies but we’ve expanded that offering to 52 double-lettered editions,” say Aardwolf. “The Lettered books will all include a unique original drawing (original art) from Rich.

If you would like to order a diouble-lettered version of The Rich Buckler Art Portfolio, please PayPal $78 to sales@aardwolfpublishing.com – there will only be 52 of these available. (I do suggest that if you do not live in the US, then you check that there is not extra costs for shipping).

You may specify the character that you prefer (Thing, Deathlok, Human Torch etc.) and Aardwolf will do our best to accommodate your preference.

In addition, they will have signed/numbered copies of the book, also with unique original drawings from Rich.  If you would like to order one of these signed/numbered books, please PayPal $50 to sales@aardwolfpublishing.com. (Again, do check what non-US delivery charges are)

The Aardwolf blog also details a number of books being offered whose sales will go to help support Rich, including Comic Book Babylon (a behind-the-scenes look at the real villains of the comic book industry: the publishers) by Clifford Meth with an introduction by Stan Lee (with covers by Dave Cockrum/Mike Pascale); and Dave Cockrum’s Futurians Return – a signed/numbered trade paperback, featuring the final work of Dave Cockrum with contributions from Neil Gaiman and Bill Sienkiewicz (cover by Ray Lago)
