The long-running Awesome Comics Podcast dedicated to promoting small press comics and more is currently running a poll – Conventions: A Small Matter of COVID – to gauge people’s feeling regarding comic-cons and the ongoing pandemic.
You can have your say here. The poll asks comic fans how happy or confident they are about attending or tabling at a comic-con within the next six months, whether documentation of being doubled jabbed should be necessary to gain entry to an event, and, given the upcoming major events are coming up – Meanwhile..., in Coventry, the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, in Kendal, and Thought Bubble, in Harrogate, among them – do you think holding a comic-con in the next six months is ill-considered/reckless?
The results of the poll will be discussed during the next episode (Episode 325), and comics writer, publisher and blogger Tony Esmond also will be reporting on the free Meanwhile... con taking place in Coventry – a weekend-long festival of storytelling, illustration and comic books.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
