Pete Milligan and Brendan McCarthy were at Gosh in London last night to launch their new Dark Horse collection, Best of Milligan and McCarthy – a deluxe collection of hard-to-find gems from the taleneted duo.
Also there was Brett Ewins was there, looking tanned, characteristically dapper and well after his difficult experiences in recent times that led to a period in confinement.
He joined Pete and Brendan ‘on stage’, chipping in with memories of Strange Days, and Pete and Brendan gave Brett credit for first introducing them (at the time when they started creating comics, they were studying at different art colleges).
During the evening, Brett revealed the event was the first time he’d been outside Hanwell and Ealing (and his first time on a train) since he got out of prison late last year. He spoke very enthusiastically about a novel he’s nearly finished, which he said will be published next year by his old freiend and former 2000AD editor Alan McKenzie.
“I was hoping Brett might be there,” Tom Murphy told downthetubes, “but was really pleased to see and hear how well he seems after what must have been a nightmarish couple of years.”
Great to hear Brett was out and about and we’re looking forward to hearing about his new novel.
