Here’s a list of comics – both US and UK releases – on sale in specialist UK comic shops from tomorrow, Wednesday 24th September 2014, courtesy of First Age Comics, Lancaster. We’ve picked out the titles published by British publishers in bold below, or titles with a British connection we’re aware of.
Obviously, the title British comic fans will be queuing for is likely to be 2000AD Prog 1900, also on sale in newsagents and digitally, which Rebellion are promoting as a “jumping on” point for new readers (see separate news story), featuring three new Thrills, including “Judge Dredd: Block Judge” by the characters co-creators, John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra. It’s a cleared the decks issue that includes a fond look back at past promoted issues.
The space lanes to Hell are paved with good intentions and the peacekeeping mission for the veterans of Alien Legion’s elite Force Nomad has gone rapidly belly up. In Alien Legion: Uncivil War #4 from Titan Comics, escorting a fleet of refugee ships has degenerated into a sprawling cosmic brawl. To make matters worse, a cadre of alien priests also seem determined to wipe out all life on a peaceful planet in preparation for their second coming!
Doug Braithwaite provides the stunning art for Armor Hunters #4 from Valiant Entertainment. X-O Manowar has played the ultimate gambit, and finally levelled the playing field against the villainous Armor Hunters. But the galaxy’s deadliest killers haven’t come this far just to surrender! Their final charge is now upon us… and it will take the combined powers of X-O Manowar, Unity, Bloodshot and the rest of the Earth’s most formidable heroes to save our world from a full-scale cosmic reckoning. The summer’s biggest crossover event is going out with a big bang – and, when the smoke clears, everything you thought you knew about the Valiant U will be forever changed. (Check out our interview with Doug which includes details of his new exhibition in Kendal here).
Over at Boom! Studios, Ian Edginton provides the script for Steed and Mrs Peel: We’re Needed #3, with art from Marco Consentino. As John Steed fights for his life inside a not as quiet as it seems seaside community, Emma Peel needs allies, and finds them in the most unlikely of sources, as the first arc in the super spies’ return comes to a smashing conclusion…
Don’t forget The Beano is on sale in all good newsagents tomorrow, too, and Doctor Who Magazine continues a cracking Twelfth Doctor story featuring one of the creepiest comic monsters ever to grace the title’s pages!
