Comics are coming to Margate! The team behind ICE Birmingham and ICE Brighton have announced that Smallzone Events will be bringing a brand new comic art festival to the coastal town of Margate in Kent.
Featuring the usual variety of top name guests, innovative indy creators and inspiring events programmes for all the family as well comics connoisseurs, Margate Comic Festival will take place on 14th – 15th April 2018 at the Margate Winter Gardens – a month before another new comics event, Portsmouth Comic Con, which is being separately organised by Portsmouth City Council and Tripwire Magazine.
Margate Winter Gardens is Thanet’s leading entertainment venue, which offers a range of entertainment events throughout the year. Earlier this year, it was named as one of the UK’s top ten most beautiful gig venues, and the Gardens are no stranger to hosting multimedia-inspired events.
in August, the venue was host to PLAY, the UK’s first and only national retro gaming championship, and organisers praised both town and venue, noting its proximity to London as a major plus for holding the event there.
Opened at the turn of the last century, the Winter Gardens regularly bring a variety of stars to Margate, including Ocean Colour Scene, The Libertines, Status Quo, Blur, Graham Norton and David Essex.
(We wonder if there will be any tips of the hat to comic writer, artist and comedian Bob Monkhouse at the event, as he was once one of the venue’s many visiting star,, as well as The Beatles and Motorhead).
“We’re thrilled to be working with the superb Winter Gardens venue to bring the magic of comic art to the people of Margate,” says Shane Chebsey.
Exhibition tables are now available at early bird discounted rates until the end of this month and tickets will go on general sale to the public in November.
