Our thanks to ace letterer Jim Campbell for highlighting Snap Flash Hustle, a new comic from written by Pat Shand, with art by Emily Pearson.
Jim’s lettering this four-issue series from Black Mask Studios, a comic book and graphic novel publishing company formed by Matt Pizzolo, Steve Niles and Brett Gurewitz, designed as a new infrastructure to support comic book creators and a new pipeline for transgressive art.
Emily Pearson, artist on The Wilds, and Pat Shand, writer of Breathless, are two of Black Mask’s most recent rising stars. Snap Flash Hustle is a crime thriller that follows a young “alternative model” Haley Mori, who throws herself headfirst into an underground narcotics ring run by New York City’s elite models who are using their platforms to sell narcotics.
Seeing a possible escape from a lifetime of crushing debt, Haley becomes involved and works her way up the ranks, making new alliances and enemies alike while getting a taste of a power she never knew she craved.
Film, comics, novels an theatre writer Pat Shand‘s many credits include Breathless and Snap Flash Hustle at Black Mask, and Little Girl at Devil’s Due. His novels work includes stories about Marvel’s Avengers, Iron Man and more.
Emily Pearson is best known for her work on The Wildsat Black Mask, written by Vita Ayala, but she previously illustrated comics such as: Vault Comic’s Cult Classic: Zero Short, written by Eliot Rahal, and “All Roads” for Jacob, written by Jed McPherson. She also illustrated the children’s book Rabbit Chef with James Cartwright, the poster for Fiona Becker’s short film Identity Pending, as well as numerous private commissions.
Jim Campbell is a letterer, logo designer and occasional artist it’s been a huge pleasure to work with numerous times, on projects such as Titan Comics Lost Fleet and Crucible.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
