Here’s a fun little find: a series of tutorial videos by artist David Yardin on “Creating a Comic Book Page”, detailing his work process in creating the artwork (layouts, pencils, and inks) for the “Colossus” story published in Origins of Marvel Comics: X-Men #1, published back in 2010. The issue also included strips written by Mike Carey.
David has posted the final art featured on ComicArtFans, which he pencilled and inked with Rapidographs and Brush and Quill in india ink on Marvel bristol board. White Gouache was also used for effects. The page features a half page splash of Colossus, as well as key moments in his life with his sister Illyana (Magik), and the new X-Men’s (Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Banshee, Thunderbird, & Sunfire) first mission on Krakoa.
A professional comic book illustrator based in Sydney, Australia, David has worked for Marvel Comics (including books such as What If? and Storm), DC Comics (he’s currently working on Injustice Gods Among Us there), Image Comics, BOOM! Studios, Valiant Comics and Disney.
He often sells some of his art via CartoonArtFans
