Crowdfunding Spotlight and Sneak Peek: Cthulhu Kids #2

Imagine what a school for the offspring of the creatures of the Cthulhu Mythos would be like… well, actually, you dont have to, because that’s exactly what small-press comic creators Peter Duncan and Andrew Pawley have done. Their wonderful Cthulhu Kids comic is the result, and a second issue, which looks great, is in the pipeline, crowdfunding permitting.

Already the basis for two successful Kickstarters, one for the first issue of their comic and the second for a Card Game, Cthulhu Kids tells the story of Class 3b at ‘The Miskatonic Academy for Outer Entities’, the most exclusive school in the multiverse for the children of Elder Things and Outer Gods.

A brilliant mash up of vintage British kids comics and the existential terror of an infinite universe, I really enjoyed the first issue, and a Kickstarter for the second issue of the comic is about to go live.

Issue Two features three stories, with the main feature titled “At the Molehills of Madness”, a story inspired by HP Lovecraft, some dead rock stars and writer Peter Duncan’s gardening father.

I’ve had a sneak peek of the new Issue and its great fun, with a funy script and terrific art – and some smashing nods to Ken Reid’s “Creepy Creations” included in the mix!

Cthulhu Kids writer Peter Duncan is also editor of the enjoyable Belfast based fanzine Sector 13, dedicated to 2000AD, and editor and publisher of Splank!, an anthology comic harking back to the glory days of UK comics.

Hailing from Dorset, Cthulhu Kids artist Andrew Pawley is also the creator and publisher of Galaxafreaks, a cosmic freak-out comic inspired by quantum physics, multi-dimensional beings and an attempt to burn the retina’s of readers out with an amazing colour palette.

“The Kickstarter for issue two will include extra rewards including copies of Issue One and the ‘Cosmic Catastrophe Battle card Game’ along with limited edition prints and an exclusive hand-painted model of Dagon Jr, best friend of Kid Cthulhu,” Peter, tells us. “We even have a piece of music specially composed by Miskatonic Music teacher Keith McVeigh.”
