Fans of the Douglas Adams novel Dirk Gently Holistic Detective Agency and its TV adaptation, running on Netflix, first screened on BBC America, might like this audio drama and graphic novel project Gray, currently funding on Kickstarter.
Gray is Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, reimagined – although not as we know it. Their Gray is a violent criminal in New York, but she’s also an immortal creature of magic.
Tony nominee Lauren Patten (Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill) stars as Dorian Gray. Neil Brown Jnr (Straight Outta Compton) plays Detective Hank Wutan, Richard Schiff (The West Wing) as Detective Augustus Bracknell, and Samuel Barnett (Penny Dreadful) plays the villainous Baron Claus Arnheim, who all appeared in Dirk Gently.
Also in the cast are Kiran Deol (Greatest Ever) as Gwendolyn and Milena Govich (Law & Order) as Baroness Laura Arnheim. Govich is also on board to direct.
Gray is a project from Prodigal TV, who also produced The Neil Gaiman at the End of the Universe audio book, with a Mother of Frankenstein project also in development/ It’s written by Stoker-nominated and Audible best-selling author Arvind Ethan David, who was an Executive Producer on Dirk Gently, whose involvement with Douglas Adams started when he adapted his holistic detective’s story as a school play. Douglas came to the performance and endorsed it as the official adaptation. It has been performed round the world ever since.
