Injection Volume Two by Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire is out from Image Comics on Wednesday (10th August 2016), on sale in all good comics shops and book shops, digital and physical.
Once upon a time, there were five crazy people, and they poisoned the 21st Century. Now they have to deal with the corrosion to try and save us all from a world becoming too weird to support human life. Injection is an ongoing series – science fiction, tales of horror, strange crime fiction, techno-thriller, and ghost story all at the same time. A serialised sequence of graphic novels about how loud and strange the world is getting, about the wild future and the haunted past all crashing into the present day at once, and about five eccentric geniuses dealing with the paranormal and numinous as well as the growing weight of what they did to the planet with the Injection.
In Injection Volume Two, collecting #6-10 of the ongoing comic, we find consulting detective Vivek Headland, originally of the group that caused the release of a haunted artificial intelligence into the world, lives and works in New York, dealing with all the strangeness that very strange city can throw at him. But a case involving a stolen ghost and human deli meat causes him to call for help, as the details of the investigation reveal a new battleground between humanity and The Injection.
“Dec and Jordie worked their guts out on this book,” says Warren, who is busy with all number of projects, including the next Injection story. “Please give it a look in your local store.”
“I am set to deliver the script for Injection #11 on August 26,” he reveals. “Dec already has the first sequence to puzzle over, which is set in a fictionalised version of a Cornish location I first saw when I was 15 or 16.
“If Volume One was broadly Quatermass-influenced, and Volume Two was broadly Holmesian, then Volume Three is our classic Doctor Who story. Which isn’t, you know, a pure thing, because Who has always had elements of both Quatermass and Holmes. But, in my head, this is very definitely the Doctor Who book.
“And, yes, it does please me to have our ‘Doctor’ be a young black woman of colour from Ireland.”
