London Book Fair announces their inaugural Audio Alley, a dedicated space for audio exhibitors

The London Book Fair has announced their inaugural Audio Alley, a dedicated space for audio exhibitors at the annual publisher event taking place in March, which will feature solution and service providers within the audio sector.

A series of aligned events will take place in the Tech Theatre, with conversations around audiobooks and audio publishing.

Friends and colleagues of B7 Media, creators of the Dan Dare Audio Adventures and, beyond their diverse range of audio titles, the comic series Pilgrim – Secrets and Lies and graphic novel Hancock – The Lad Himself, will be doing a seminar on the subject of “Dramatising Books for Audio”.

The seminar takes place on 14th March, from 2.15 – 2.45, and the panel includes multi award-winning audio, television and film writer’s Ayeesha Menon and Richard Kurti, along with audio drama producer, Helen Quigley and producer/director, Andrew Mark Sewell.

Last year, UK indie producer and publisher B7 Media launched Audioteria – a new platform specifically for independently produced audio drama and related audio content (such as enhanced audiobooks and audio theatre). It’s available as both an iOS and Android App and its own website at Audioteria.com.

Exclusive content includes the audio edition of comic artist and writer Dave Gibbons autobiography, Confabulation, released in December. A free sampler is available here.

“Dramatising Books for Audio”

An expert panel of award-winning audio drama writers, producers and directors will discuss what makes a successful book dramatization. Adapting books beyond a simple narrative audiobook into a performed, sound designed and orchestrated immersive story, creates a cinematic experience in the listener’s imagination. The only thing a fully realised audio drama doesn’t provide are the pictures!

The panellists will look at various case studies from both the UK and internationally and explore how radio dramas have evolved over time, discuss new forms of digital storytelling and the changing expectations of the listener. They will also look at the relationship between the author and dramatist, the growth of radio drama on new platforms, through podcasting and on-demand services and speculate on the future evolution of Audio Drama.
