New Statesman and South Wales Argus cartoonist Tim Harries will be giving a talk on his career and showing some of his original art at Newport Museum next week (Tuesday 12th January).
Organised by the Friends of Newport Museum and Art Gallery, the event will offer fans of his popular daily strip Never Say Dai the chance to chat with Tim about his work, which also includes cartoons for national newspapers, New Statesman, Reader’s Digest, Saga Magazine and others.
Newport residents will best know him, for that rare beast of today’s budget-stretched local newspapers – the daily strip Never Say Dai. It’s a humorous reflection of local news and culture that has been a popular feature of The South Wales Argus since its debut 18 years ago.
Tim has drawn over 4,500 Dai strips to date, which centre on Dai Morgan, official middle-aged dad and head of the Morgan household (wife June, daughter Joanne and son Rhys). In reality, he’s head of the remote control and that’s about it. Such is life …

He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
