Hot on the heels of Free Comic Book Day, the free Oldham Comic Con returns to the northern town’s Queen Elizabeth Hall this Saturday, 11th May – and is set to be the event’s biggest and busiest yet.
A hugely-popular non profit event, any money raised on the day through donations and on the spot fundraiser activities goes towards buying books, comics and graphic novels.
The focus of Oldham Comic Con is firmly on comics and books, and the line-up of comic guests includes artists Aneke, Steve Austin, Nick Brokenshire, Michael Carroll, Amy Chu, Mike Collins, Alan Cowsill, Nigel Dobbyn, Neil Edwards, Kevin Enhart, Al Ewing, Martin Griffiths, Kev Hopgood, Dave Kendall, Laura Howell, John Davis-Hunt, Joe Matthews, Paul McCaffrey, Tim Perkins, Richard Piers Rayner, Ian Richardson, John Royle, Lew Stringer, Ellen Stubbings, Dave Taylor, Lee Townsend, Steve Yeowell, Keith Williams and Phil Winslade; plus a huge number of exhibitors, a list that includes Chris Askham, author Austin Chambers, Dan Charnley, Doctor Who illustrator Carolyn Edwards, Jon Laight, Markosia, Reckless Hero, Neil Bhuna Roche, Matt Soffe, Elephantman creator Tom Ward and Dan Whitehead, and many more.
Along with the chance to meet, greet and chat with a huge number of creators about their work, the day includes panels, comic creating workshops, readings, plus cosplay events and face painting… and you can even get your picture taken with Batgirl and Batman!
“This year’s event is huge,” enthuses organiser Dennis Whittle, Who heads up an enthusiastic team who put the event together, “and all free! And people still think I’m hiding stuff…”
Get along and find out if Dennis and his gang have other surprises up their capes… although there’s more than enough lined up already to keep you very busy!
