As we’ve previously detailed, Rebellion have several Treasury of British Comics Specials out this year, with their Action 2020 and Cor!! Buster titles still available. The publisher has now unveiled its covers for this year’s Misty & Scream! Special by Andrea Bulgarelli and the Battle (of Britain) Special cover by Nelson Daniel.
Out on out 19th September, the Battle (of Britain) Special is a 100-pages spectacular marking the anniversary of the Battle of Britain, with brand new work by Dan Abnett, Keith Burns, Jimmy Broxton, Alex De Campi, Garth Ennis, Glenn Fabry, Alan Grant, Alan Hebden, PJ Holden, Staz Johnson, Brett McKee, Tom Paterson, Karl Stock, Lew Stringer and Rob Williams.
Chilean artist Nelson Daniel‘s many credits include Detective Pikachu, Clue, D&D, String Divers, “Judge Dredd”, Road Rage, and much, much more.
Following the success of previous fright-filled outings, the Misty & Scream! Special is due for release on 30th September. Two of Britain’s best loved comics reunite again for an anthology of brand new tales that are guaranteed to terrify and entertain you – courtesy of a coven of creators, including Kek-W, Simon Coleby, Vincenzo Riccardi, Cavan Scott, Alec Worley, DaNi, and many more.
Italian artist Andrea Bulgarelli has been working in comics since 1990, initially for various fanzines. His credits include work on Italian comics such as Calavera and Suspiria, in addition to plenty of cover work.
Ahead of these eagerly-anticipated releases later in the year from Rebellion, there are plenty more delights brought up to date from featuring characters and strips from Rebellion’s huge archives, beginning with the Smash! Special, out on 27th May.
Featuring some of the most original and unusual caped crusaders you’ll ever encounter, this 64-page special features super-villain-turned-hero The Spider by Rob Williams and John McCrea, supercharged secret agent The Steel Claw by Charlie Higson and Charlie Adlard, Cursitor Doom by Maura McHugh and Andreas Butzbach, the ‘Missing Link’ who became the man of the future Johnny Future by Tom Raney, giant robot ape Mytek the Mighty by Suyi Davies Okungbowa and Anand Radhakrishnan, “Thunderbolt” by Helen O’Hara, and The House of Dolmann by Simon Furman and Chris Weston.
Chris Weston has teased a panel of “House of Dolmann” on Twitter, while writer Rob Williams offered a teaser of a page of art from his The Spider strip featuring art by John McCrea.
John himself kindly gave us a sneak peek of how The Spider would look with a tantalising warm up sketch back in October last year!
Also on their way is a Roy of the Rovers Euro 2020 Special in June – despite a lack of football action in the real world right now, so that should salve the pain a little at least; the 2000AD Sci-Fi Special: Twenty Years of Rebellion (24th June); and the Tammy & Jinty Special (29th July 2020).
All the Treasury of British Specials will be on available from newsagents and by order from comic shops, and digital editions will also be available
Let’s not forget the collections from the Treasury of British Comics, either. Johnny Future (reviewed by Peter Duncan here) was the most recent release and has gone down a storm with fans old and new. But there’s plenty more to savour, including, of course, Masters of British Comic Art by David Roach, which is just an absolute delight of a history of British comics you really should not be without
