Art created by Arthur Adams, Paul Chadwick, Dave Gibbons, Mike Mignola and Walter Simonson has recently been sold under the banner MarthaArtAuctions, a special charity auction – but there’s still time to bid on a piece by Frank Miller, offered through BritComicsArt.com.
Proceeds of art will go directly to Black support organisations in the US and UK, chosen by the artists.
Back in the early 1990s, a number of comic artists published under the “Legend” imprint contributed artwork to Frank Miller and Dave Gibbons’ “Martha Washington” series for Dark Horse, each producing a single pin-up image.
The original art has recently been unearthed and, inspired by #ComicWritersChallenge, has been auctioned individually online through BritComicsArt.com for charity. In addition, Dave Gibbons and Frank Miller have each produced a new image for auction.
The first auction, for Walt Simonson‘s pin up of Martha Washington, sold for $5000, with 100% of the proceeds of this auction benefiting the WonderFoundation.org.uk charity.
Arthur Adams art sold first $5500, and will benefit Black Lives Matter US.
100% of the proceeds of the auction of art by Paul Chadwick, which sold for $500.00, will benefit The NAACP – The National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People.
Mike Mignola’s art sold for $5900 and will benefit The Runnymede Trust, a race equality think tank and registered charity.
Dave Gibbons‘ art is the most recent sale, raising $3500 in aid of The Stephen Lawrence Trust.
The final auction for an artwork by Frank Miller ends on Saturday 11th July 2020 at 1.00pm PDT/9.00pm UK time, with bidding currently standing at $3550. As with the sale of Paul Chadwick’s art, proceeds will benefit The NAACP.
BritComicsArt are the official art agents for artists Dave Gibbons, Brian Bolland, Frank Quitely and Mark Buckingham. They also sell some art by other comic artists, largely from the modern era.
Although based in the UK, they also, in normal times, attend a number of the larger US comic conventions each year, including San Diego, New York and Baltimore.
Details of how to bid on Frank Miller’s art are here. The high bid amount will be periodically updated on the website through the duration of the auction. In the event of receiving two bids of the same amount the earliest submitted will be taken and the second bidder informed by email.
