If you’re heading to Greenwich, London, this summer, then don’t miss “Summer Lovin’” at the Duke of Greenwich pub, an exhibition of cartoons by a huge range of creators, curated by Daily Mirror cartoonist Pete Songi, who’s also a member of the Professional Cartoonists’ Organisation.
The exhibition opened just last week and this time the theme is around ‘Summer Lovin’’. It includes work by some amazing cartoonists from around the country including Steve Bright, Lorna Miller and Vroni Holzmann in Scotland and Graeme Keyes, Fergus Boylan and Dean Patterson across the Irish Sea – and Joe Dator, from a bit further across the pond!
The work of 60 cartoonists features in the exhibition, with cartoons by Jeremy Banx, Peter Brookes, Dave Brown, Ben Jennings, Nicola Jennings, Kathryn Lamb, The Surreal McCoy, Morten Morland, Nick Newman, Matt Pritchett, Pugh, Martin Rowson, and many more.
Each entry in the exhibition has a QR code next to it, pointing potential buyers to either a website or email of the cartoonist should they want to discuss the purchase of a print.
This is the second “Great Cartoon Exhibition” at the pub, after the first boosted customer numbers and, presumably, bar profits.
“They asked us back,” said Glenn Marshall in a post on the PCO website. “The Duke Of Greenwich … have seen a massive boost in footfall and the venue has now become a hub for other local talent. The Greenwich Printmakers, A local travel photographer and a portrait artist all followed our first exhibition adorning the walls, the owners keen to keep the space occupied.”
The Professional Cartoonists’ Organisation promotes the work of its members and champions the cartooning arts across the board and around the world, including this exhibition. They organise and support exhibitions and festivals. The PCO also stand up for, and have campaigned on behalf of oppressed artists. All before breakfast.
