SF author J.S. Collyer and Lancaster-based fantasy author A. S. Chambers are guests at Talk Nerdy 2 Me in Preston on Friday 8th May 2015 at the Harris Library, Museum and Art Gallery from 4.00pm to 9.00pm.
The event will feature stalls, a cosplay competition, an open mic event and an Authors’ Corner where writers will be selling copies of their books and other goodies.
J.S. Collyer studied Creative Writing at BA and MA level at Lancaster University. Since then she has had her short fiction featured in some online publications and printed anthologies. Her first novel, Zero, an epic SF romp rife with political conflict and human tragedy was released by Dagda Publishing in August 2014.
A.S.Chambers lives in Lancaster and writes urban fantasy and horror fiction when day-to-day mundane life will let him. He’s the creator of Sam Spallucci, a whisky drinking, chain-smoking, trumpet playing, investigator of the paranormal. (If you live in or around Lancaster, you might want to catch his appearance at Lancaster Library on Saturday 25th April, signing his new book All Things Dark And Dangerous along with other titles).
“Last year’s inaugural event was a great success and attracted over 600 visitors,” said Victoria Todd, Lancashire County Council’s library officer at the Harris. “There will be a wide range of activities including a talk from Deborah Simms, a contestant on this year’s Great British Sewing Bee TV programme, a seminar and Q&A session, an open mic event and debates.
“There will also be a competition and prizes for the best costumes. Indie vendors and big chain names will be running stalls.”
Lauryn Baxter, a Lancashire County Council creative apprentice, said: “The event will be run by staff at the Harris Library along with youth forum, Hijack the Library, a small group of committed people with a passion to involve more young people with libraries, and make them a venue accessible to everyone.”
