The upcoming Romics, The International Festival of Comics, Animation, Cinema and Games XXIX (6th to 9th October 2022) is gearing up to be a major comics event in the Italian capital next month.
Spanning four days of events, special meetings and a wide range of guests, the XXIX edition of the Festival will offer the opportunity to immerse yourself in all the worlds of creativity, from comics to illustration, from fiction to cinema with industry news, publishing houses, comic shops, collectors, gadgets, video games and unmissable meetings with authors, editors, influencers and talents.
Artists and comic creators attending include Jama Jurabaev, illustrator, concept artist, matte painter and art director for cinema and video games; groundbreaking, thought provoking Italian comic creator Filippo Scòzzari, Japan’s Yoshiko Watanabe; and will include a celebration of 60 years of major Italian comic character Diabolik.
Romics is the International Festival of Comics, Animation, Cinema and Games, launched in 2001 by Isi.Urb and Investimenti Spa. Organised by Fiera Roma Srl and Mens Nova Srl, it’s held twice a year in Rome, and attracts some 400,000 visitors a year, with a program of over 100 presentations, meetings and events in 10 locations at the same time.

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
