A new comic convention for South Manchester, Wythenshawe Comic Con will take place at Wythenshawe Forum on Saturday 9th June 2018.
The event is a joint venture between the Wow Comix comic shops and The Wythenshawe Forum, with support from Wythenshawe Library and various other local organisations. Its aim is to bring an exciting and entertaining Comic Convention to South Manchester, featuring guests from the comic industry and lots of traders selling comics and related items. There will be events to join in with on the day, cosplay and competitions for adults and children.
Confirmed guests so far for this one day event include Lew Stringer and the team from indie comic publishers Accent UK.
Lew has worked for all the major publishers. He inspired Alan Moore with his Brickman character, who encouraged him to pitch his work, successfully, to Marvel UK back in the 1980s, and since then has been a major contributor to Beano, The Dandy, VIZ, Sonic the Comic, Doctor Who Magazine and more.
Lew has been working as a freelance artist and writer in British humour comics since 1983, who regularly documents British comics old and new on his Blimey! blog. Along the way he’s created characters such as Combat Colin, Tom Thug, Pete and his Pimple, Robo-Capers, Derek the Troll, Brickman, The Suburban Satanists, The Dark Newt and more.
Founded in 2000, Accent UK is a privately owned comic publisher based in Manchester in the United Kingdom.
Owners Colin Mathieson and Dave West collect the talents of the UK independent comic publishing community, along with guests from overseas, producing an annual themed anthology, as well as now releasing shorter books, one-shots and graphic novels.
Andy Bloor joined Accent UK in 2007 as art director overseeing all aspects of design and production for the books.
