New details of Action Force: Redux, a new ongoing fan comic project, to be published by Rising Sun Comics next year, have just been unveiled. Plus, they’ve also launched advance limited promotion Xmas Xclusive offer to get your hands on some “Variant B” covers, including one by original Action Force cover artist Geoff Senior.
Action Force: Redux is a new, not-for-profit full-colour, 40-page, ongoing monthly comic, from Rising Sun Comics marking the 40th anniversary of Action Force toys in 2022. Each A4-size issue will feature a free poster and trading card.
Penned by Bloodforthebaron.com‘s Jim Marshall, the comic features the artistic talents of the brothers Robert Atkins (GI Joe, Transformers, Spider-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Brian Atkins (Final Street, Family Graves), Simon Gough (GI Joe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ringside), Geoff Senior (Action Force, Transformers, Zoids, Death’s Head, Dragon’s Claws, “Judge Dredd”, To The Death), Patrick Goddard (2000AD, “Judge Dredd”, Sniper Elite), Alejandro Cabral (GI Joe, Action Force: Millerverse, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters, Tales from the Crypt), Mariano A’Q (Masters of the Universe), kerowack! (MASK ’85, MASK ’86), Rodolfo Valenzuela (Loaiza Fortun, Aztec), cartoonist Alan Schell (Action Force: Red Dawn) and columnist Ian Wheeler (Doctor Who Magazine, ComicScene).
Jim kindly sent me an advance copy of the first issue and it looks impressive, offering a range of strips that set the scene, re-establishing the “Action Force” universe, both heroes and villains. There’s plenty to appeal to AF fans, and enough to make you want to come back for more!
In anticipation of the launch of the new comic in March 2022, Rising Sun are offering an advance pre-orders Xmas Xclusive. Only available for a limited time, it’s your chance to order the variant B covers for Action Force: Redux issues 1, 2, 3 and 4.
This Xmas Xclusive four-pack also comes with a full-colour, fold-out poster by Scottie Watson (Talon, Dead Reckoning) and an Action Force: Redux #0 mini-comic.
The comic is available to order now, with a special Christmas period promotion running until 31st December 2021. UK orders are being handled by GetMyComics to smooth distribution here.
“Distribution is a little convoluted as this is Rising Sun’s first UK release,” writer Jim Marshall explains, “but it’s only for the duration of this limited promotion, then we will switch over to GMC full-time in the New Year.”
Action Force and all related properties are of course, copyright Hasbro, Inc., and the creative team are keen to stress Action Force: Redux is a fan-based project. After production costs, any profits are donated to the National Health Service charity fund and the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals.
Jim Marshall’s brilliant Blood for the Baron website is a fan project dedicated to documenting Action Force, the European incarnation of GI Joe.
Rising Sun Comics is an American independent comic publisher that has been creating GI Joe related not for profit comics since 2008.
Rising Sun Comics has several goals; to reintroduce the fandom to Action Force and the Red Shadows, to expand the GI Joe universe and to foster up-and-coming comic book talent by giving them a finished published work. They hope this will gain them exposure and an introduction to the comics industry.
