Eve Stranger, the comic-book series created by writer David Barnett (Punks Not Dead) and illustrated by Philip Bond (Deadline), has been optioned by BBC Studios for television series development.

Released as a miniseries in 2019, it was one of the core titles of American comic-book editor Shelly Bond’s Black Crown imprint. Chris Ryall, former IDW Chief Creative Officer and current co-founder of Syzygy Publishing, will serve as an Executive Producer on BBC Studios’ Eve Stranger.

Writer David Barnett added, “I could not think of better hands in which to put an adaptation of Eve Stranger than BBC Studios’ Drama Production department. They totally get what Philip and I were doing with the Eve Stranger comics and I simply cannot wait to see how the high-octane thrills, quirky humour and sheer non-stop adventure is translated to television.”
“Eve Stranger was the most fun I’d had creating comics in years,” says series artist and co-creator Philip Bond. “David and I threw everything into the pages: the giant gorilla, the Goa party, the Orient Express, the gadgets, the clothes. If the cast and crew on an adaptation have as much fun making Eve as we did, and dress Eve in the right boots, it’ll be a joy to watch.”

David Barnett is a British author and journalist, writer and co-creator (with artist Martin Simmonds) of the critically acclaimed Black Crown series Punks Not Dead and author of the bestselling novels such as Calling Major Tom (Orion Books, 2017), The Lonely Hearts Cinema Club (2018) and, most recently, No Mountain High Enough (2021). As a journalist, he works for most of the UK press, including the Guardian and the Independent.
Philip Bond is co-creator and co-founder of publishing imprint OffRegister.Press . He was and co-creator of Cud: Rich and Strange with band members Will Potter and Carl Puttnam, Kill Your Boyfriend and Vimanrama with Grant Morrison and Red Herring with David Tischman. He lives and works in Los Angeles.
