The newly-formed Retro Comics Group – the brainchild of Wales-based comic creator Simon Williams – has managed to snag the legendary TV/Hollywood star David Hasselhoff as a special guest star for the comic title Retro Tales.
The Hoff will make his official comic-book debut in Retro Tales, and will be teaming up with Simon’s own wacky creations, the Discotronic Funk Commandos… and will then spin (H)off into his own action packed comic book!
Simon got in contact with the Hoff via his website, and has since spoken to the legendary Knight Rider star (who of course first appeared in comics in the Look-In Knight Rider strip) several times.
“I am so incredibly proud to be able to announce this,” he enthuses. “Getting to speak to David and exchange ideas for this has been beyond awesome. It’s very surreal, but also very, very cool when my mobile rings… and it’s David Hasselhoff! David has told me that I’m officially “Hofftastic”… possibly the most amazing compliment of my career!!”
The Hoff character, co-created by the Hoff and Simon will appear as a time-travelling agent of H.O.F.F. (Heroes Of Fearless Freedom), and will team-up with the Funk Commandos in a history-making special team-up issue when Retro Tales is released later this year… and will be co-written by Simon Williams and David Hasselhoff.
Retro Tales is the latest work from Simon Williams, whose credits include Spectacular Spider-Man Adventures, The Incredible Hulk, Death’s Head and Marvel Heroes.
Simon’s comic book style of drawing has often been compared to the Marvel Comics of the 1960s, 70s and 80s… inspired by such greats as Sal and John Buscema, Jack Kirby and other creators from that era. Keeping with that retro style, Simon is bringing his creator-owned Discotronic Funk Commandos to the pages of Retro Tales, alongside some all ages, fun new characters for some classic, old-school comic book fun and adventure.
Simon tells us he’s looking forward to meeting the Hoff for the first time at the London Film and Comic Con in July but the Hoff has already been seen sporting his HOFF t-shirt, drawn exclusively by Simon Williams.
There will be news of yet another super special guest-star very soon.
