A quick reminder that ComicScene Magazine 13 launches 14th April – and this issue of Britain’s comics magazine, crammed with Dan Dare celebratory features, is only available by mail order or as a digital edition, and not through newsagents.
ComicScene Magazine, the only dedicated monthly magazine to comics and comic culture in the UK and Ireland and available worldwide from GetMyComics. The title features the best in classic, new and indie/small press comics every month, as well as features on comic inspired film and TV, events (you remember those, right?), and comic strips.
As we previously reported, ComicScene 13 marks the 70th anniversary of Dan Dare‘s debut in Eagle this month, and sports a Mekon-dominated cover by Martin Baines. The issue includes a terrific line up of articles on the original Eagle and Dan Dare, plus Dan Dare in 2000AD, the 1980’s Eagle, Grant Morrison and Rian Hughes’ take in Revolver, the Virgin Comics version, and Titan Comics, too – and the B7 Media Dan Dare Audio Adventures.
Plus, there’s and a look at the work of Frank Hampson, and several comic strips, including “Rok of the Reds”, “Whackoman!”, the final episodes of “Flintlock” and “Captain Cosmic” – and a free 16-page Spaceship Away supplement, offering three strips in the style of 1950’s Dan Dare.
“We channelled our inner Reverend Marcus Morris and Frank Hampson to bring you a celebration of 70 years of Dan Dare,” says editor Tony Foster, “and the best strips you’d find in any comic anthology.
“These creators and characters wouldn’t be out of place in any ‘new’ Eagle (or 2000AD for that matter!),” he feels.
