We trailed its opening a couple of weeks back, but the DC Exhibition: Dawn of Super Heroes has now opened at the O2 in London – and looks really good, Tripwire magazine’s Joel Meadows was at the launch and has kindly shared some of his photographs with downthetubes…

“The DC Exhibition: Dawn of Super Heroes currently happening at the O2 offers something between an overview and a whistle-stop chronology of all things connected with the publisher,” notes Tripwire‘s senior editor Andrew Colman.
A unique exhibition presented by with DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Consumer Products in collaboration with Art Ludique-Le Musée, this one-of-a-kind exhibition celebrates DC’s rich history, unique mythology and iconic Super Heroes and Super Villains such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and The Joker.

DC Exhibition: Dawn of Super Heroes features more than 200 original comic pages, around 300 preparatory sketches and concept artworks for the cinema, together with 45 original costumes, models and props used in the iconic films.
“There are timelines explaining the development of the company in the late 1930s and early 1940s,” notes Andrew, “that chart its meteoric rise to supremacy in the nascent industry, coupled with endless breath-taking exhibits focusing on all facets of their media profile.
“Although the exhibition doesn’t provide that much depth regarding its subject (its curator correctly opting to not be too dry with his subject), it is unsurpassed in its true remit – bringing an immersive experience of the publisher’s history. It’s a satisfyingly ambitious effort.”

Our thanks to Joel Meadows for his photographs. TRIPWIRE MAGAZINE is the magazine of genre culture, examining comics, film, music and so much more. It was created by Joel Meadows, back in the day, as an incidental fanzine and evolved into an comprehensive window into the things people love and consume, including a great online resource
