In Review: 2000AD Prog 2096

2000AD 2096 - Cover By Neil RobertsFeaturing a striking The Order-inspired cover by Neil Roberts, the latest issue of weekly SF comic 2000AD is on sale now in all good comic shops and newsagents across the UK, and various digital platforms.

Gordon Rennie and Emma Beeby clearly having tremendous fun ripping the whole hack and slash movie genre to pieces in the new series of “Survival Geeks“. It’s great fun and I’m looking forward to see him spike the whole silliness of Friday the 13th and other movies in coming weeks with in his usual barbed style.

John M. Burns continues to give Kek-W‘s “The Order” a wonderful, ethereal style, as the characters head into a dangerous, otherworldly setting. I love the unsettling beauty of this strip, and the breadth of the story.

While “Judge Dredd” is a bit slow this episode after the action opener last week, there are still some funny moments involving a stuffed toy. “Mechastopheles” and its large cast are beginning to grow on me as the series continues, filling in some background to the whole setting. Karl Richardson handles the busy scenes well, although it would be nice to have a scene not set in the dark one in a while. (I doubt that’s going to happen given the storyline!)

Favourite strip is still “Grey Area” right now. Mark Harrison‘s design work on the whole strip is simply stunning and long a perfect pairing, he and Dan Abnett are really delivering on this tale. Lots of twists and turns to come, I suspect!
