Former Marvel Comics editor Tim Quinn has created a unique Platinum Jubilee souvenir in the form of The Queen, a new comic telling the life story of the Her Majesty, available now from, and in aid of the charity, Liverpool Heartbeat.
The new venture has even had the thumbs up from Windsor! It’s good to know the Queen may be a comic fan, right?
The comic captures the Queen’s story from childhood to the present day, and was written and edited by Tim, and illustrated by Russ Leach, Lew Stringer, Nigel Parkinson, Holly Bushnell and George Sears, and also includes children in photos from Arnside Primary School.
The comic, has been put together for the Merseyside children’s charity Liverpool Heartbeat, founded by Robin Baynes MBE, who create literacy projects for schools across the country, who were recently given Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to volunteer groups in the UK.
Proceeds from the sale of the comic will go to Liverpool Heartbeat’s work in inspiring young people in the North West and Merseyside to pursue healthy, exciting and fulfilled lifestyles. It’s even had Royal approval, through a letter from the Palace!
“As I researched the Queen’s life story, I was struck by how visual the tale was,” he told ChampNews last week. “It proved to be a perfect story to approach in exactly the same way we produced the super-hero titles at Marvel Comics.
“There’s nothing quite like the Marvel method of storytelling to capture the imagination of even the most ardent non-reader. The combination of the Marvel approach and the Queen’s amazing story has proved to be a visual treat.”
• Copies of the comic can be obtained direct from the Liverpool Heartbeat website here, price £5
