“Lost” Doctor Who strip materialises

Artist Russ Leach has just posted these wonderful pages drawn for a Doctor Who Adventures story in progress when the comic was sadly cancelled.

The story was scripted by Kieron Moore and was a casualty of the title’s low sales, despite inventive and enjoyable work on the Panini UK title. The strip had reached as far as being coloured by John Michael Burns and we’ve included two finished pages he’s posted online.

The creative team on this version of Doctor Who Adventures also included former TV series script editor Andrew Cartmel and artist Grant Perkins, the comic edited by Jason Quinn.

Doctor Who Adventures went “on hiatus” earlier this year (see news story) although Panini stated at the time that it might return. Perhaps that may still happen next year, with the debut of the new Doctor played by Jodie Whittaker.

Here’s hoping Panini collect the stories they published for the title and include this. Russ, who completed the whole unpublished story, clearly has a good eye for likeness – his Twelfth Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, is terrific.

Russ is currently working on Ben 10 Magazine for Cartoon Network, drawing licensed Marvel characters for Marvel/Hachette’s Draw The Marvel Way and drew all the lead strips for Panini’s version of Doctor Who Adventures. You can find him online at www.russleach.com
