Marking the launch of Time Bomb Comics’ new newsstand anthology, Quantum, on sale from today, Thursday 20th April 2023, the Brimingham-based publisher has also announced a competition to win the first issue’s original cover artwork, pencilled by David Morris, inked by Pat O’Connor. This giveaway is part of Quantum’s goal of encouraging buyers to visit their local newsagent.
Quantum, a bi-monthly comics anthology, represents a new and exciting development in the British indie comics scene, aimed at bringing comics to a new audience.
The art, showcasing characters from Quantum #1, is available to anyone who buys Quantum. In order to enter the competition, buyers of Quantum only need to share a selfie of themselves with their copy, along with the name and address of their Newsagents. These pictures can be shared on any social media platform used by Time Bomb Comics; Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, and should be tagged to #TimeBombComics, so that they can be found.
A winner will be randomly selected from the entrants on 21st June 2023. Entries can come from anywhere across the world.
However, rather than just being a launch issue incentive Time Bomb Comics is also planning to give away the cover artwork for forthcoming issues of Quantum too, in similar fashion.
The Time Bomb Comics team want to do all they can to encourage people to visit their local newsagents, and of support local businesses.
“This isn’t something that’s just happening for Quantum No.1,” says Time Bomb publisher Steve Tanner. “Quantum will be giving away the cover artwork for each new issue to one of its readers.
“We want to recognise how important the newsagents will be to Quantum’s success,” he continues, “so that’s why the rules of entry for our unique cover art giveaways are designed to give them some much deserved kudos too.
“So, if your local independent newsagent doesn’t have a copy of Quantum on the shelf, ask them to order one for you and enter our cover art competition when you get it.
“It’s just one part of what we’ll be doing with Quantum. We hope the readers will enjoy the content, but we also hope they’ll enjoy being involved with the comic on a deeper level. A Quantum level!”
As we previously reported, the first issue of Quantum features “Major Rakhana: Pax Galactica” part one (written by Steve Tanner, artist Pete Woods, colourist Dan Harris, letterer Rob Jones); “WesterNoir: Moon Cursed” part one (written and lettered by Dave West, artist Joseph Parangue, colourist Matt Soffe); “Memphis” (written, drawn and lettered by David Morris); “Whatever Happened to the World’s Fastest Man?” part one (written by Dave West, artist, the late, missed Marleen Starksfield Lowe, letterer Andy Bloor), first published by Accent Comics; and “The Clockwork Cavalier” (written by Steve Tanner, artist Ed Machiavello, colourist Dan Harris, letterer the late, missed, Bolt-01).
Quantum #1 also features a short gag strip from Time Bomb director David Morris’ “The Tale of Norton the Dragon” series, originally published as a newspaper strip in the 1980s (and, more recently, in LAMP Magazine), and exclusive editorial content.
