Sneak Peek: “The March of the Hare”, a new horror comic from Baden James Mellonie and 2000AD’s Dom Reardon

Independent British publisher Eighth Continent Publishing has unveiled its next project, The March of the Hare, a new horror comic written by Baden James Mellonie, co-created with Caballistics Inc co-creator and 2000AD artist Dom Reardon.

The first arc of the story, called “Keep Your Friends Close”, will appear in the Bolt 01 annual, being produced by Ed Doyle and Alan Holloway at Sentinel Comics, in memory of the wonderful, much-missed Dave Evans, who we lost in 2021, in tragic circumstances.

As “Bolt-01”, Dave did so much for so many creators involved in the British comic scene, including lettering some of the tales in Rejected, an anthology project edited and published by Baden, published in 2019. (Copies still available here).

All proceeds from sales of the Bolt 01 Annual, a hardback publication, from Sentinel Comics, publishers of the pocket book comic Sentinel, will go towards charities chosen by Dave’s family.

“We really want to make this a fitting tribute to him and the way he contributed to the Indie Comic scene, especially through his publications,” say Ed and Alan of this special project.

“Many a 2000AD Writer and Artist have graced the pages of Zarjaz and Dogbreath, getting their first chance at producing a comic strip and having their work out there for all to see.” For the latest news on the Bolt-01 Annual, follow Sentinel Comics on Facebook.

The rest of The March of the Hare, starring Wander de Haas, will be released via Eighth Continent Publishing as a US format comic, in an ongoing cycle of four issue arcs.

Baden James Mellonie is the co-creater and writer of the critically acclaimed Edge of Extinction, with co-creator and 2000AD artist Paul Peart-Smith. (Copies available here).

His credits also include Trojan for Reaper Comics, and had work published in Zombre for Borderline Press, and a variety of other British anthology titles.

He also wrote Church of Hell for Berserker Comics, featuring art by the talented Kevin Molen, and edited the artbook, Maximum Mayhem, The Art of David Max Millgate, the first dedicated art-book from “Sinister Dexter” co-creator David Millgate.

Winner of Best New Talent at the British Comics Awards in 2004 and instantly recognisable for his heavy blacks and fine lines, Dom Reardon is perhaps best known for 2000AD horror tale, “Cabillistics, Inc”, co-created with Gordon Rennie.

He’s also co-creator of “The Grievous Journey of Ichabod Azrael” and pencilled several 2000AD “Terror Tales”, “The Ten-Seconders” and a “Tales of the Black Museum” for Judge Dredd Megazine.

“I am incredibly proud to be co-creating a new horror comic with the incredibly talented Dom Reardon,” Baden told downthetubes.

“I am a huge fan of his work, always have been. He’s been one of my favourite artists for years, so this is something that I am absolutely stoked about. Wander de Haas is a character that’s been sat in the dark corners of my mind for a very long time will now see the light of day.”
