Viking Press Comics expands its comics line with Sherlock Holmes titles, “Vampire Invasion” and more

Viking Press Comics has lots of exciting new titles out now and in the pipeline, including more graphic novels by a variety of great creators.

Viking Press Comics is an imprint of New Haven Publishing, set up by author and freelance music journalist Teddie Dahlin. Across its entire range, incorporating Phoenix Press for crime fiction and its US arm, New Haven Publishing, they publish the work of around 70 authors and publish books and deluxe magazines, mainly in the music and entertainment genre.

Their comics titles are available from them direct, and all sellers of books and comics online, including representations of two Sherlock Holmes by Tim Quinn and George Sears, previously collected by Collins Lions, the all-new The Vampire Invasion by Dragon Award-winning writer Rik Hoskin, with painted artwork by Chatri Ahpornsiri, the previously released Only Death Can Save Us by Rik Hoskin and Russ Leach – and many more.

The Vampire Invasion by Rik Hoskin, with painted art by Chatri Ahpornsiri, sees an alternate history, where the first moon landing overshot, and landed on the dark side of the moon – which vampires had their home for hundreds of years. The moon landing draws them back to Earth to invade – and the results aren’t pretty!

Rik Hoskin, who’s also recently adapted The Wheel of Time: The Great Hunt, for US publisher Dynamite Entertainment, featuring art by Marco Abreu, weaves a canny tale of the undead… Make your choice, bloodsack–will you be predator … or will you be cattle?

Rik is a multi-award winning writer of novels, graphic novels, video games and animation. He’s written comics for Star Wars, Superman, Doctor Who and various other properties, and won the Dragon Award for Best Graphic Novel for White Sand, with Brandon Sanderson, which also made the New York Times Bestseller list. He also writes SF and horror novels under his own name and as “James Axler”. He also writes video games, where he has served as head writer, and has written animation for BBC television in the UK.

Chatri Ahpornsiri has coloured several series, including Storm and The Trigan Empire under the tutelage of Don Lawrence, and provided inks and colors for other artists including, the late Art Wetherell. He provided cover art for the Deathlands series of audio books for several years.

Sherlock Holmes in the Hound of the Baskervilles and Sherlock Holmes and The Speckled Band are a perfect introduction to Sherlock Holmes for readers of all ages, full length graphic novel adaptations of the stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle from Tim Quinn and George Sears.

Tim Quinn

Back in 1991, when Collins Lions published their editions, the Sherlock Holmes Society said of the stories “The characters are broadly drawn, the script carries the narrative along rapidly, and it’s all good clean fun,” and who are we to argue?

Tim Quinn – writer, raconteur, editor and more – entered the comics industry in the 1970s, working at various times as a writer, artist and editor for British publishers DC Thomson and IPC before, along with artist Dicky Howett creating “Earth-33⅓” and its bizarre inhabitants for Marvel UK in the 1980s, and “Doctor Who?” for Doctor Who Magazine. He has also worked for Marvel in the US at various times, written numerous books and graphic novels, and inspired thousands of children to write and draw down the years through many a school project.

George Sears spent 40 plus years in the business of creating comics and art, and is best known for supplying illustrations and strips to The Saturday Evening Post Magazine and CBHI in the US, often working with Tim.

Only Death Can Save Us by Rik Hoskin and Russ Leach, told so far across Volume One, Keystone, and Volume Two, Techstone, is a science fiction, fantasy adventure, combining action and pathos as the ancient elemental known as ‘Death’ leaps from his ethereal retirement to help a young soul protect her loved ones, her world… and even existence itself!

The story firmly plants itself in the “all ages” readership audience with ex-Marvel editor Tim Quinn guiding the art and story duties of DC and Marvel artist Russ Leach and award winning writer Rik Hoskin in a tale that is in many ways a love letter to the way comics used to be.

Russ Leach is an award winning Batman and Doctor Who artist with a career in production spanning nearly 40 years. In that time he has accrued a long list of credits producing design, tech and publishing projects for a wide variety of clients including DC, BBC, Marvel, Cartoon Network, Panini, Markosia, Wizard and Sony, to name just a few.
