Comic artist and writer Lew Stringer has been digging into his amazing archive of his own work and others, and has some items on sale on eBay this week.
Part of a “Billy Bunter” comic strip from the original Knockout comic. Not dated but it would be late 1950s. Illustrated by Eric Roberts, who later drew “Winker Watson” and “Dirty Dick” for The Dandy
The cover art to Combat Colin (2018). This is the cover to the second collection. Features MadRProf, Semi-Automatic Steve, plus Combat Colin versus a doppleganger! Lew is including a copy of the published 40 page comic itself as a free bonus with this lot. Combat Colin originated in the Marvel UK weeklies of the 1980s but the copyright was returned to Lew so he has published collections of his stories.

Lew’s original version of the cover artwork to OINK! comic No.53 (1988). “Although I was pleased with the face of ‘Pete and his Pimple’, I wasn’t happy with how I’d done the captions, so I rejected it and started again,” Lew explains. “These days I could have adjusted things in Photoshop but back in 1988 that wasn’t a thing.”
Back in 1990/91, Buster began running some one-off strips to liven up the contents. Some were try outs by newcomers, some by established Buster artists like Lew. The strips were never intended to continue, but just to serve as quick complete strips. “Invaders from Beyond” appeared in Buster cover dated 15th December 1990

The founder of downthetubes, which he established in 1998. John works as a comics and magazine editor, writer, and on promotional work for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He is currently editor of Star Trek Explorer, published by Titan – his third tour of duty on the title originally titled Star Trek Magazine.
Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who Magazine, Babylon 5 Magazine, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics. He has also edited several comic collections, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”.
He’s the writer of “Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies” for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs” with Dave Hailwood.
