Fighting Fantasy Fest will be returning to the University of West London on Saturday 3rd September 2022, in FF’s 40th anniversary year, featuring Guests of Honour, Steve Jackson and Sir Ian Livingstone, as well as a host of other FF authors and artists.
Artists will include 2000AD and SHIFT comic creator Alan Langford, who illustrated a number of the Fighting Fantasy books, his comics work most recently seen in the SHIFT 2022 Special and his graphic novel, The Secret of the Aesir.
Fighting Fantasy is the title given to a series of interactive novels also known as Gamebooks that were developed by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone. They had a huge following during the 1980s and 1990s. The books were ground-breaking in their heyday as they provided the reader with the chance to enjoy a good fantasy story as well as, for the first time, allowing the reader to guide the direction of the story to one of numerous end variations.
A sequel to the first and most iconic Fighting Fantasy adventure, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, titled Return to Firetop Mountain, was released in 2020. In it, the evil sorcerer, Zagor, was thought to be defeated: but by the power of dark sorcery, he has risen from the dead to re-take his seat in forbidding Firetop Mountain and wreak revenge.
