The Cap Stone mini series from Titan Comics, re-publishing the digital title from Madefire by wife and husband team Christina McCormack and Liam Sharp, concludes this week with the release of Issue 4 in comic shops – and we have a sneak peek.
In the final issue of a series in which Earth’s only superhero disappeared after undergoing a cataclysmic fall from grace in the eyes of the world, Charlie reveals her dark past and connection to Captain Stone. Will it be too much for Lord Chance?
Christina McCormack has been involved in the comics industry for many years; first at Marvel UK, working as part of the production team producing many titles for both younger and older readers, and later in the promotions department. She set up Mamtor in 2004 with comics artist and writer Liam Sharp and has subsequently worked closely with Liam developing ideas and material, culminating in Captain Stone is Missing.
Liam Sharp has been an artist, writer (comics and prose) and publisher over the years, making his debut in the late 1980s drawing “Judge Dredd” for 2000AD. He later designed and drew Marvel UK’s best-selling title ever, Death’s Head II, written by Dan Abnett.
After working at Marvel UK he started work on characters as diverse as the the X-Men, The InHulk, Spider-Man, Venom, Man-Thing (for Marvel Comics), Superman, Batman (for DC), and books such as The Possessed and Gears of War (for DC/Wildstorm), Spawn: The Dark Ages (for Image) Red Sonja (for Dynamite comics) and Testament (for DC/Vertigo.)
He has also worked on more mature themed books drawing Frank Frazetta’s The Death Dealer (Verotik), and a strip originated by Stan Winston called “Realm of the Claw”.
In 2004, he established MamTor Publishing with Christina, which saw the launch of the critically acclaimed and award-winning anthology Event Horizon, and numerous novels and art books.
Liam also worked on designs for the films Lost in Space, Small Soldiers and the animated series Batman Beyond, as well as a series of major advertising campaigns. His first novel, God Killers: Machivarius Point & Other Tales, was published in 2008 with a second edition in 2009. He also wrote and drew the Aliens graphic novella Aliens: Fast Track to Heaven for Dark Horse.
In 2011 Liam co-founded Madefire, a media and technology company, which, as we’ve previously reported, has built an end-to-end publishing platform and launched the Madefire App which delivers Motion Books– and the company recently partnered with Titan Comics to publish some of their titles in print.
“Liam and I work really well together,” said Christina of the Cap Stone‘s creative team’s working relationship back in 2012. “When a project is sufficiently developed, Liam tends to get on with the dialogue — he has a knack for the character voices, and they flow pretty naturally.
“At this point I usually have to rush off somewhere, in order to maintain harmony! We will review together, tweak — or not — and inevitably continue to talk about it until it feels complete. The whole invention and development of stories is a fun collaborative thing to do, really very immersive and personal — despite the subsequent insecurity and worry!”
