Crowdfunding Spotlight: !GAG! #2 by Phil Elliott, Eddie Campbell and Glenn Dakin

!GAG! #2 by Phil Elliott, Eddie Campbell and Glenn Dakin

After the successful revival of his !GAG! anthology late last year, Phil Elliott launched a modest Kickstarter for #2 this week, and there’s still time to back the latest collection, offering some new material from Glenn Dakin, and more.

The !GAG! comics anthology originally ran for seven issues from Martin Lock’s Harrier Comics back in the late 1980s, switching from comic book to magazine with #4.

The second edition of this modern take spans 60 pages in a landscape A4 format, and features obscure, unpublished and new strips by Phil, Eddie Campbell and Glenn Dakin.

Eddie Campbell, perhaps best known for his hugely popular Alec strip and From Hell, created with Alan Moore, has dug around into his archives for some cartoons of the more personal sort.

Also included are some Alec out-takes, a kind of “who he is and how he came to be,” and his helter-skelter lunatic stuff, such as the “Great Wasters from History not counting Dave Sim” series.

Illustrator, comic book artist and colourist Phil Elliot, co-creator of Illegal Alien with James Robinson and The Man from Cancer with Glenn Dakin, the latter now appearing in SHIFT, offers you twenty pages of his idiosyncratic comic strips, many of which have never been seen before.

Writer and cartoonist Glenn Dakin, author of books such as Mr. Spock’s Little Book of Mindfulness, the Candle Man novels, and his autobiographical strip, Abe, introduces his first new cartoon character in over a decade, Hopty Mystic, coloured by Daniel Rachael. We’ll also be treated to some and unseen “Abe” and “Temptation” strips.

There are sketches by all three creators available as rewards, and Eddie has also written an entertaining and enlightening introduction to this second edition of !GAG!. Phil and Glenn also introduce their own comic strips, with more interesting stories about their contributions.
