Offering a slightly different episode, on Episode 51 0f the Lakes International Comic Art Festival Podcast finds Pete Taylor chatting to freelance designer, comics creator and author Brad Brooks about EC and MAD creator Harvey Kurtzman, the comic making process, digital comics and world comics.
Brad co-authored The Essential Guide to World Comics withTim Pilcher, co-ordinator of the Festival’s new Breakthrough project, and The Complete Cartooning Course with Steve Edgell and Tim Pilcher. Tom Stewart then joins show hosts Ian Loxam and Nikki Bates as they spend the final segment of the episode discussing the ins and outs of Avengers:Endgame. Be warned: this is a spoiler-filled chat however it’s not until the end of the episode so fear not… and the team give you warnings if you haven’t seen the movie.
Reviewed this time out are John Tucker‘s latest one-shot CYDO, one big A2 sheet with a cover/poster on one side and a comic, in an 8×5 panel grid, on the other; and Ian goes gooey over his new favourite writer Jeff Lemire and reviews Underwater Welder and Black Hammer, the latter featuring art by Dean Ormston and Dave Stewart.
Mike Williams turns Hellboy and talks all about Mike Mignola, and the beginnings and the complex story threads running through the comic, while Tom reviews Alan Henderson’s Penned Guin: Don’t Judge Me.
