    he best in comic book and pop culture entertainment comes to Britain’s South Coast on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May 2018 with the debut of Portsmouth Comic Con. US comic creators Geof DarrowGene Haand Russell Walks are among the guests already announced and tickets go on sale from today.

    The largest event of its kind ever mounted in the prestigious naval city, the International Festival of Comicswill feature some of the most important comic writers and artists in the industry, with many creators appearing in the UK for the very first time. All guests have worked on some of the biggest properties in genre including Star WarsGame of ThronesDoctor Who, Superman, Batman, Wolverine, Judge Dredd, Indiana Jones, James Bond and many more.

    Confirmed US guests that will be available for signings and a range of panels and Q&A sessions include Geof Darrow (Hard BoiledShaolin Cowboy), Russell Walks (Star Wars Official Artist), Tommy Lee Edwards(Batman BeginsSuperman ReturnsMother Panic) and Gene Ha (Top 10).

    Also appearing will be Frank Quitely (All-Star SupermanThe AuthorityBatman & Robin), John Paul Leon (BatmanMother Panic), Cully Hamner(The ShadeThe QuestionRedBatman and The Signal), Dave Dorman(Star Wars, Indiana Jones), Simon Fraser (Kingsman2000AD), Rafael Albuquerque (co-creator of American Vampire) French fantasy artist Claire WendlingMark Buckingham (FablesHellblazerThe Sandman), Laurence Campbell (BPRDPunisher) and Bengal (BatgirlSupergirl) – with lots more set to be announced over the coming months.

    This year’s Comic Con will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the first appearance of Superman in Action Comics and the 40th birthday of the classic Christopher Reeve Superman movie and will also showcase exclusive behind the scenes art from HBO’s Game of Thrones.

    Portsmouth Comic Con, International Festival of Comics will celebrate the art of comics and illustration plus the worlds of TV and Film, providing fun for aficionados, lifelong fans and families alike. Glimpse behind the camera of Doctor Who, with one of its leading prosthetic makeup artists, Gary Pollard, and cosplay will be strongly encouraged with prizes awarded for the best costumes on the day.

    The event is the brainchild of Portsmouth Guildhall and Tripwire MagazineTripwire, created and edited by Joel Meadows, has been, for over 25 years, the pre-eminent comic and genre publication read by some of the biggest names in the film, TV and comic industry.

    Portsmouth Comic Con International Festival of Comics is supported by Capital FM in a new partnership between them and the Guildhall for the 2017/18 year.

    “Portsmouth is a city that has been crying out for an event such as this for many years,” Joel enthuses. “With Tripwire’s decades of industry expertise and Portsmouth Guildhall’s experience of running conventions and large events, we believe we can offer a show that will firmly place Portsmouth Comic Con, International Festival of Comics at the heart of the UK convention calendar.”

  • Swansea Comic and Gaming Convention Logo

    The third Swansea Comic and Gaming Convention takes place at the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea on 5h May 2018.

    A "convention for the community by the community", the event was founded by prominent members of the local geek community, who wanted to give a little back to their supporters.

    Swansea Comic and Gaming Convention LogoHeld for the first time in 2016, SCGC incorporates various aspects of geek fandom into the convention, including (but not limited to) comics, table-top and board gaming, cosplay and video gaming.

    The aim of the SCGC is promote creators both new and old from these areas and to also support and raise awareness for their chosen charity Maggie’s Swansea.

    Their conventions offer many involving activities including gaming demos (both video gaming and table top and board gaming); fun and interactive comics activities such as the Swansea Comics Collective’s legendary wall comic; and cosplay panels, competitions and parades, various raffles.

    Oldham Comic ConOldham Comic Con is a free comics-oriented event in Oldham Library, drawing on mainly comic creator talent in the North West, including Manchester.

    Comics guests include Judge Dredd creators Carlos Ezquerra and John Wagner, Neil Edwards, The Etherington Brothers, Patrick Goddard, David Roach, John Royle, Lew Stringer and many, many more, detailed below.

    "The focus is on reading, writing, publishing and drawing," says organiser Dennis Whittle, "with an emphasis on comics, fantasy, SF and horror."

    Dennis, a lifelong comics fan, tells us that the library has around 3000 visits on a regular Saturday, so it could be a busy day.

    The Cardiff Independent Comic Expo is a family friendly, not-for-profit annual show, dedicated to providing a platform for the very best in independent comic artists, writers, publishers, illustrators and more, from South Wales and beyond.

    The event returns for its seventh annual show, and continues to celebrate the talent of those creators at the heart of the indie scene. With over 90 exhibitor tables, a retro-gaming zone, a kids creativity area, and a full programme of events (talks, live art events, and panel discussions on Indie press, working in the Comics and Gaming industries, creativity and more), there’s something for everyone!
