Coming up this week at Forum Auctions are sales of a limited number of items by street artist Banksy, and an auction of vintage NASA photographs and more from the Stephen White Space Collection, which includes some concept art images of space projects that never were.
The Only Banksy auction, offering a number of limited edition screenprints featuring some of the artist’s best-known images, runs on Thursday 10th June and you can bid online here… if you have recently won the lottery, or are stinking rich. All the items in the auction have been authenticated by the Pest Control Office, the office that handles the paperwork for the graffiti artist Banksy.
There are a lot more items on offer from Forum Auctuons in the Stephen White Space Collection sale, and the prices aren’t as eye-watering! These include some concept art, some the work of artist Frank DiPietro who, as noted by Mike Acs, another collector of space memorabilia, together with Frederick E. Fahdt and John Gorsuch, comprised Martin Company’s artistic/illustrative “Dream Team”.
These artworks are offered alongside images from various NASA space programs, from Gemini onwards, including most Apollo missions, and more.
Stephen White’s Los Angeles gallery for fine art and historical photography opened its doors in 1975, one of the first in the United States. He became the founding president of the Association of International Photography Art Dealers in 1979. Always ahead of the field, the gallery represented and exhibited 20th century and contemporary photographers as well as 19th century pioneers. In 1990, he sold his entire personal collection and inventory to a Japanese museum and the gallery closed in 1991.
Since 1990, Stephen has devoted his time to collecting, writing, researching and curating. He has curated or co-curated exhibitions at the Van Gogh Museum, the Palais Tokyo in Paris, and many American museums.
A number of the photographs in this sale were included in the catalogue and exhibition Skydreamers: A Saga of Air and Space, at the Autry National Center, Los Angeles, December 2010 to April 2011.
