Doug Braithwaite “Paradise X” art, and other British artists, feature in latest ComicLink auction list

Auction house Comic Link have some interesting art coming up for auction soon that includes a number of British artists, some noted below. Fellow artist David Roach spotted this mightily impressive spread from Marvel’s Paradise X by Doug Braithwaite, inked with aplomb by Bill Reinhold, published back in 2002.

“I must admit to not having seen Paradise X before,” says David, “but it certainly looks explosive. It’s a shame comic artists are paid by the page, not by the character…”

Also on offer are some Hellblazer pages by David Lloyd, publisher of Aces Weekly. This intriguing page was created for the Hellblazer series The Horrorist and is a rare example of David fully painting a strip for a US publisher.

“It’s worth pointing out that back in the heyday of British comics like the Eagle, Ranger, Boys World, TV 21 and Countdown painted strips were the norm, rather than the exception,” David Roach notes, “so David was carrying on that fine tradition, albeit for an American audience.”
